Planning Pre-application Advice
Free advice for householders
We are happy to provide you with advice and information and to talk about your project before you send us your application. A duty planning officer is available in the Oaklands reception area from 9am to 1pm - Monday to Friday.
No appointment is needed, however, meetings are restricted to a maximum of 30 minutes. If your query would take longer then please make an appointment with a planning officer.
The duty officer will give advice on queries such as:
- Extensions
- Porches
- Outbuildings
- Loft conversions
- Dropped kerbs
- General planning queries
Please note: This is a verbal service only. We charge £50 if you need a visit to your home.
The duty officer will not be able to give advice on proposals for which a charge is made.
We will not give advice about trees unless they are protected by law.
We also ask developers to talk through their proposals with neighbours before they apply. This can help to sort out issues before formal submission to the council.
Planning research
We are willing to carry out planning research at your request.
The fees are:
- £28 per request for individual householder applications
- £97 for other requests
Pre-applications advice service
We offer a written service for which a charge is made. This can also include a face to face meeting if requested.
All requests for pre-application written advice must be made using the correct form together with any supporting information requested by the form.
This covers proposals for:
- Planning permission
- Permitted developments
- Consent to carry out work to protected trees
- Listed buildings
