In accordance with Regulation 4 of the Local Authorities (Referendums) (Petitions) (England) Regulations 2011, the Council is required to publish the number of signatures which would be required to support a valid petition on whether the Council should change to a different form of governance or an Elected Mayor. This number is equal to 5% of the number of local government electors in the District having effect on the 15th February each year.

For the year commencing 15 February 2024, the number that is equal to 5% of the number of local government electors shown in the revised register of electors is:

This number will have effect for the purposes of determining the validity of petitions presented after 31st March 2024 and before 1st April 2025, unless prior to that date a recalculation takes place, which results in a lower number being published. In those circumstances the lower number shall be the number used from the date of publication until 31 March 2025
