Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act (RIPA)
The Council has powers to undertake covert surveillance activities in certain circumstances for the detection or prevention of crime.
We will not undertake any activity defined within the Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act 2000 without prior, or emergency, authorisation from an appropriately trained member of the Management Team, who is empowered to grant such consents.
Our RIPA Policy sets out how the Council will exercise these powers, and the duties and responsibilities of senior officers within the Council under the Act.
