Mid Sussex District Council seeks representatives for advisory roles

Mid Sussex District Council is inviting individuals from the community to apply for roles within the Council as Independent Persons for Standards or as Members of the Allowances Panel.

The Council is firstly seeking candidates who can provide independent input and contribute to maintaining high standards, upholding local democracy, and providing objective, external oversight.

The Council is also seeking a number of additional local residents to join a Panel responsible for advising the Council on the level and type of allowances to be paid to District Councillors. This role requires impartiality, the ability to analyse financial data, conduct benchmarking, and ultimately provide guidance for Council consideration.

The roles are voluntary with small allowances and will help advise and support the council when considering matters of standards and remuneration in respect of elected members.

No specific experience is required aside from a passion for serving local communities and upholding the highest standards of democracy.

A spokesperson for Mid Sussex District Council, said: “We are inviting passionate individuals from our community who are looking to become more involved with local politics to step forward and contribute to local governance.

“Whether serving as Independent Persons for Standards or members of the Allowances Panel, these voluntary roles offer a unique opportunity to advise and support the Council. Join us in shaping a stronger and more transparent local government."
