Free ‘Spring into Action’ sessions filled parks in Haywards Heath, East Grinstead and Burgess Hill with sport, games and new activities.
Mid Sussex District Council has wrapped up its popular ‘Spring into Action’ Easter Play Days, welcoming more than 1,000 children and family members to three free events across the district.
This year’s programme focused on outdoor, interactive activities designed to get children and families moving. Sessions included tennis coaching, football, cricket, archery, skateboarding, and circus skills. For the first time, South Downs Boxing Club and Happy Hockey joined the line up, delivering boxing and hockey workshops and activities.
Local resident, Sue, who attended Play Days at St John’s Park said, “I think these are a good event for the local community and with the fact it’s free, you can’t go wrong. It’s glorious today and it’s lovely for [the children] to be outside.”
Lucy Corrie, Assistant Director of Communities at Mid Sussex District Council said “It was fantastic to see our parks full of children and families getting active, trying something new and enjoying time outdoors together. We’re grateful to our brilliant coaches and partners for helping make the Easter Play Days such a success.”
The schedule of free activities proved popular for children and families, with attendances increasing by 5% on last year’s Easter Play Days.
On Tuesday 7 April, the programme at St John’s Park, Burgess Hill was particularly well attended with 203 children under eight joining the fun. Although the activities are designed for younger participants, everyone is welcome to come along.
Families attending the St John’s Park Play Day were also invited to help shape the future of the park by taking part in a consultation and sharing their views on a new play area and skate park.
