Chairman of Mid Sussex District Council
The Chairman
The Chairman of the Council is the first citizen of the Mid Sussex District and the Office of Chairman is the most important civic appointment in the District.
By custom, it is usual for the Chairman to be accorded precedence in his/her own District over everyone except Her Majesty the Queen and members of the Royal Family, or the Lord Lieutenant of the County when he/she is representing the Crown.
The Chairman is elected annually by their 53 fellow Councillors and serves for a period of 12 months during the civic year, which begins in May.

The actress Judy Parfitt, a Hurstpierpoint resident, planted an oak tree to mark the 150th birthday of St Lawrence School. The tree was provided by Hurst Society and replaced a long standing horse chestnut which had to be felled a few years ago.

The Chairman hosted a charity fundraising concert in aid of his chosen charity - Sullivans Heroes. 'An Evening with Glen Miller and friends' with the ConChord Big Band was held at Clair Hall, Haywards Heath and raised a fantastic £3305 for the charity.

The Chairman's chosen charities for the forthcoming year will be the Children's Unit at The Royal Marsden Hospital, and Woodlands Meed School. More information on both organisations can be found below.
Vice Chairman of Mid Sussex District Council
The Vice-Chairman acts as deputy to the Chairman at Council meetings and also attends functions and events throughout the year.
The current Vice Chairman of Mid Sussex District Council is Councillor Margaret Belsey.
