Temporary Road Closures

If you are planning an event such as a parade, carnival, street party, or play street that may affect traffic on a public highway, you may need to apply for a Temporary Road Closure Order (TRCO).

Mid Sussex District Council has the authority to issue Temporary Road Closure Orders under the provisions of the Town Police Clauses Act 1847.

When to Apply Elsewhere

Mid Sussex District Council is unable to provide temporary road closures for more complex or large-scale events. This includes, but is not limited to:

  • Requests involving changes to speed limits
  • Sporting events
  • Off-road events affecting passing traffic
  • Closure of main arterial roads
  • Events involving large numbers of people over multiple days

These types of closures are managed by West Sussex County Council under a Temporary Traffic Regulation Order (TTRO). Please refer to their guidance for further information. Temporary Traffic Regulation Orders (TTROs) and Section 16 applications - West Sussex County Council
