More than 3,500 people enjoy free Summer Play Days across Mid Sussex

Thousands of children, parents, and carers joined Mid Sussex District Council’s free Summer Play Days this year, with attendance 24% higher than the previous year and more fun already planned for October half term.  

Mid Sussex District Council is celebrating a bumper summer of free family fun after more than 3,500 people joined its Summer Play Days across the district, a 24% increase on the previous year.  

Across 10 free Play Days, thousands of children, parents and carers tried sports, circus skills, music, crafts and much more. The sessions were organised by the Council’s Communities Team and supported by local clubs, activity providers and volunteers, helping to bring a wide range of activities to towns and villages across Mid Sussex.  

The popular programme gives families the chance to enjoy free activities during the school holidays, helping children stay active, try something new, and spend time with others in their local community. By bringing activities into familiar, accessible spaces, Play Days also support local clubs and organisations to connect with families and encourage more people to get involved in community life.  

Cllr Anne-Marie Cooke, Cabinet Member for Communities and Communications at Mid Sussex District Council, said: “These events make a real difference by giving children opportunities to stay active, get creative, and build confidence during the school holidays. It’s always great to bring communities together and help families discover the fantastic clubs and organisations that make Mid Sussex such a great place to live.” 

Families can look forward to more free activities at the Council’s October Half Term Indoor Play Days. There is no need to book; however, spaces and parking are limited, and events are intended to be local, community-based activities that families can walk to where possible. All families are welcome to attend whichever session is most convenient for them, with places available on a first come, first served basis. 

October Half Term Indoor Play Days will run from 2pm to 4pm on:

• Tuesday 27 October at Kings Centre, Burgess Hill, RH15 9LR
• Wednesday 28 October at Jubilee Centre, East Grinstead, RH19 2HL
• Friday 30 October at Dolphin Leisure Centre, Haywards Heath, RH16 1LY
