Mid Sussex District Council strengthens digital services with launch of new mobile app

Mid Sussex District Council is expanding the ways residents can connect and interact with their council with the official launch of the Mid Sussex District Council app – the latest addition to its growing range of digital communication channels.

Residents can already access council services and information through the Council’s website, social media platforms and e-newsletters. The new app, developed in partnership with Cloud 9 Technologies – the team behind successful apps used by councils across the UK – provides an additional, convenient way for people to stay informed and access services wherever they are.

Available to download for free from the Apple App Store and Google Play, residents simply need to search “Mid Sussex District Council” to find and install the app onto their smartphone or mobile device.

More information about downloading and using the app can be found on our App webpage.

Designed with simplicity and accessibility in mind, the app is intuitive and easy to use. It complements existing channels such as email and phone, giving residents more choice in how they access information and services. Plus, by offering clear digital signposting and self-service options for common queries, it also helps free up phone lines for those residents who need more personalised support.

Once the Mid Sussex District Council app has been downloaded, users can tap to complete common “top tasks”, enabling them to:

  • Keep up to date with the latest local news and updates.
  • Report incidents quickly and easily.
  • Find useful information about their home and community.
  • Access localised information tailored to them by entering their postcode.

A key feature of the app is its integration of waste management services, including bin collection dates and the option to set collection reminders. With recent changes to bin schedules across Mid Sussex following the rollout of the 1, 2, 3 waste programme, residents will find having this information at their fingertips particularly helpful.

The app also includes a Find My Nearest feature, giving residents quick access to information about their nearest libraries, leisure centres, recycling centres and parks – all in one place. For those who want to stay up to date with the latest developments in Mid Sussex, the app highlights Council news and links directly to the Council’s social media channels. Ongoing development will see further tools and features added in the future.

While the app represents an important step forward in digital access, residents can continue to connect with the Council by:

  • Visiting the Council’s website at midsussex.gov.uk for comprehensive information, news and access to a full range of services.
  • Following the Council’s social media channels (@midsussexdistrictcouncil on Facebook and Instagram) for important alerts, event information and community stories.
  • Signing up to one of the Council’s e-newsletters, including the monthly Mid Sussex Matters, to receive the latest updates straight to their inbox.

Residents who prefer to speak to someone directly can still pick up the phone to contact the Council, and news will also continue to be shared through the local press and magazines.

Councillor Anne-Marie Cooke, Cabinet Member for Communities and Communications, Mid Sussex District Council, said: “The launch of the Mid Sussex District Council app is an exciting development in how we connect with residents. It builds on the strong foundations we already have through our website, social media and e-newsletters, giving people even more choice in how they access our services.

“As more people begin using the app, we hope to introduce further updates and improvements. We very much welcome feedback and suggestions for new features to ensure it continues to meet the needs of our community.”
