Celebrating British Food Fortnight in Mid Sussex with the Sussex Six Campaign

British Food Fortnight (26 September – 11 October 2026) is an opportunity to celebrate the food and drink produced here in Mid Sussex and the local businesses that bring it to our shops, cafés, pubs, and restaurants.

This year, Mid Sussex District Council is using the fortnight to highlight the Sussex Six campaign, which encourages businesses to stock or serve at least six Sussex products. From honey, sparkling wine and craft drinks to artisan cheese, chocolate, and seasonal produce, choosing local helps support producers and strengthens the local economy.

Residents are encouraged to support Sussex Six businesses during British Food Fortnight by visiting local shops, cafés, pubs and restaurants and exploring the new Sussex Six map, which helps people discover producers, retailers and hospitality businesses championing local food and drink across Sussex.

Businesses are being encouraged to join the Sussex Six campaign. Local producers can sign up to the Sussex Six directory free of charge, helping to showcase their products to residents, visitors and hospitality venues looking to source food and drink from Sussex.

Residents can also explore the Sussex Honey Guide, which showcases Mid Sussex honey producers, farm shops, attractions and bee-related experiences. Featured local businesses include Hiver Honey at Albourne Estate, Borde Hill, Gravetye Manor, Wakehurst, Happy Honey Home at Nymans, Standen House, Plaw Hatch Farm Shop, The Sussex Bee and The Sussex Beekeeper. The guide, along with a range of free activity packs, is available to download online.

Councillor Ian Gibson, Cabinet Member for Sustainable Economy and Housing, said: "Mid Sussex has a fantastic range of local food and drink producers, and we want to help more people discover and support them. The Sussex Six campaign and the Sussex Honey Guide make it easier to choose local, support new businesses, and enjoy some of the excellent products made here in our District."

For those looking for inspiration this British Food Fortnight, Mid Sussex District Council have created in partnership with Experience Sussex a range of food and drink itineraries showcasing some of the best local produce and hospitality venues across Mid Sussex, helping residents and visitors discover new places to eat, drink and shop locally.

We hope residents will get involved by discovering local producers, visiting local markets and choosing Mid Sussex food and drink wherever they can.
