Hazardous Waste

Hazardous materials cannot be collected by the Council's contractor:

Asbestos must be collected by a licensed contractor, or may be taken by householders to some Amenity Sites - contact 01444 243041 for advice.

Cesspool emptying is not undertaken by the Council.

Chemical or toxic waste must not be put in rubbish bins. For details of what can be taken at local Household Waste Recycling Sites please look at the Recycle for West Sussex website.

The following materials are potentially hazardous household products:

The above can be taken to local Household Waste Recycling sites where special storage is available. Full details at WSCC Hazardous Waste page.

Be careful if employing a rubbish clearance, gardening or odd job company. If your waste is found dumped illegally you are still responsible for it under the Environmental Protection Act 1990, Section 34.

Contact the Environment Agency on 08708 506 506 and ask for a Waste Carrier Validation Check. You can also do this online by checking the Authorised Waste Carriers register. If your contractor is not registered, you should refuse their services and request that they seek advice from the Environment Agency.
