Community Clean Ups

Community litter picking

Mid Sussex District Council are happy to support any individuals or local groups that have an interest in keeping your local area clean and tidy.

We can offer:

  • Blue rubbish sacks
  • Loan of litter pickers &  hi-vis tabards. Numbers are limited so you need to register your event with us early. You will be required to sign out any equipment borrowed and any damages or losses on their return will need to be covered.
  • Collection of any litter picked up after the event, from an agreed site. This needs to be pre-arranged.

Groups wishing to do litter picking should organise their own risk assessments and insurance.

To borrow equipment and / or to arrange a litter collection please contact the Waste Management Team.

Charity waste

If you are a registered charity and need help to dispose of your waste, you may be eligible for free recycling and waste disposal at local Household Waste and Recycling Sites. These are run by West Sussex County Council. Please check the WSCC Charity Waste webpages for more information.

Charity event bins

We have a limited number of bins that we can loan out for events. In order to be eligible events need to be free of charge to attend. Bins will be delivered to, and collected from, an agreed site.  Please book as early as you can as demand can be high especially at times when there are lots of events such as May bank holidays, or bonfire night.

There is no charge for this service and MSDC are happy to support recycling during event, however if there are large amounts of contamination in the bins we may have to consider a charge for collection of waste that will then go to landfill. So if you would like recycling bins as well as waste bins you may need to sort them after the event.

If you would like to book bins for your event please contact the Waste Management Team.
