The Core Strategy is a key document in the Mid Sussex Local Development Framework. It is the over-arching document that sets the framework for all subsequent detailed documents. These documents need to be in conformity with the Core Strategy.
The Core Strategy sets out:
- The vision for Mid Sussex to 2026
- Core policies on general issues including the environment, settlement pattern, affordable housing, gypsies and travellers, town centres, shopping, employment, rural issues, community facilities, infrastructure and energy
- Housing strategy and broad locations for development

Rural Issues Background Paper (Consultation Draft)
As part of the evidence base for the Core Strategy, the District Council is in the process of preparing a Rural Issues Background Paper. Once finalised, this Paper will help inform the policies in the emerging Core Strategy, particularly those that are concerned with the villages and rural settlements.
A draft of this Paper has been prepared with the assistance of preliminary consultation work with the District's Parish Councils. The draft Paper can be viewed by going to the link below.
The draft Paper is now out to consultation including the District's Parish Councils and key stakeholders such as residential groups, infrastructure and service providers. The consultation period is not a statutory process and will last for an extended period of nine-weeks until 5pm on Monday 8th September 2008. Interested parties should submit comments to ldfconsultation@midsussex.gov.uk or by post to the Planning Policy Team.

Core Strategy - Pre-submission Documents
The 'Pre-Submission' Core Strategy Document was published for a statutory six-week consultation period between 7th February and 20th March. It included a number of options for the location of new development, including large-scale housing sites, and a range of other potential policies relating to the location and nature of future development in Mid Sussex. The publication of this document gave everyone the opportunity to contribute to shaping the future of the District over the next 18 years.
No decisions have been taken on where new development will go, and all the responses relating to this document will help us to prepare our future long-term strategy.
