Coronation Celebrations 2023

The Coronation of His Majesty The King and Her Majesty The Queen Consort will take place at Westminster Abbey on Saturday 6th May, 2023.

Across the Coronation Weekend, there will be opportunities for people to come together in celebration of the historic occasion. You can find out more about the national celebrations here.

The Coronation Big Lunch

The Coronation Big Lunch, at which neighbours and communities are invited to share food and fun together, will take place across the country between Saturday 6 and Monday 8 May.

If you would like to join in with celebrating this historic occasion and organise your own ‘Big Lunch’ you can sign up here to receive your Coronation Big lunch pack for all you need to get started, fun ideas, top tips, practical advice and more.

Coronation Street Parties and Road Closures

If you would like to organise a street party with friends and neighbours to celebrate the Coronation you will need to apply for a temporary road closure.

Applications should be made by Friday 31st March 2023There is no charge for Coronation Commemoration Road Closures from 6th to 8th May 2023.

The Big Help Out

On Monday, 8th May 2023, members of the public will be invited to take part in The Big Help Out, which will encourage people to try volunteering for themselves and join the work being undertaken to support their local areas.

Coronation Community Grants Fund

The Council has allocated dedicated funding of £20,000 from the Community Grant Fund programme to facilitate and enable community celebrations across the District for the Coronation of King Charles III and Camilla, The Queen Consort.

Applications are invited from non-profit making community/voluntary groups on a one-off basis to run events that celebrate and mark the King’s Coronation in Mid Sussex.  The funding is to help with the costs of appropriate related activities primarily on or around the ‘Coronation Big Lunch’ and ‘The Big Help Out’ and applications should demonstrate appropriate community benefit and/or community input.

Parish and Town Councils can apply in partnership with other groups/organisations but are exempt from applying as a single organisation.
