Residents enjoy rejuvenated Batchelor’s Field play equipment

Mid Sussex District Council have completed initial improvements at Batchelor’s Field play area in Bolney.

Residents and users of the area were asked towards the end of 2019 what improvements they would like to see. Some described the play area in Bolney as ‘tired’ and others mentioned the bumpy nature of the site as a problem, especially for little ones learning to walk. However recent work at the site means there is now a level, exciting and fun location for children and families to play.

In rejuvenating the site, Mid Sussex District Council has been able to provide the most popular things people asked for within the play area, including installation of climbing opportunities for older children, a big slide and lots more swings. Thanks to the Rampion Fund at Sussex Community Foundation funding, secured by Bolney Parish Council, it has been possible to install a Mega Swing, which can be used by multiple children at once and swings in all directions.

An additional stage to the project will take place in the summer, when the Council will install a new bike track between the Mega Swing and hardcourt area.

Councillor John Belsey, Cabinet Member for Environment and Service Delivery said:

“I feel that we have all developed a renewed sense of value in our public open spaces over the past year. Having asked local people about their experiences of the Batchelor’s Field playground, I’m glad we have been able to incorporate lots of their ideas into these improvements.”

Debbie Thomas, Clerk of Bolney Parish Council said:

"We are very pleased that the new equipment is of high quality, is stimulating to the imagination and also good fun. It is already well used, even when it's been raining children have been enjoying themselves.  In all, this new playground equipment will be a great asset for the village and we are very grateful."

In line with current government guidance, the playground was sanitised before opening to the public and will continue to receive a weekly clean. All users are asked to familiarise themselves with the Covid-19 guidance signage on the entrance gates to ensure safe use for everyone during this time.
