New Mid Sussex District Council Chairman
PR2102/MF/MF - 12/05/2017
Councillor Bruce Forbes is the newly elected Chairman of Mid Sussex District Council. He will hold the position for 12 months during the civic year that runs from May. Councillor Phillip Coote has been appointed as the new Vice-Chairman.
Councillor Forbes has represented the Crawley Down and Turner’s Hill Ward on Mid Sussex District Council for the past six years and has been the Council’s Vice-Chairman for the past two years. He has lived with his wife Jennie in Turner’s Hill for over 10 years and together they have two children and six grandchildren.
Since becoming a District Councillor in May 2011, Councillor Forbes has served on a number of important committees, including the Scrutiny Committee for Community, Housing and Planning, Audit Committee and the Licensing Committee. Councillor Forbes has confirmed that his chosen charity for the year will be Sullivan’s Heroes, a local organisation that funds home adaptations for disabled children. The charity is currently supporting numerous families with disabled children to continue to care for their child at home, safely and with dignity.
“It is a great honour to be elected by my fellow Councillors to be Chairman of Mid Sussex District Council for the next 12 months,” said Councillor Forbes. “I can’t wait to get started because I know from my time as Vice-Chairman what an excellent opportunity this is to meet people in our local communities and talk about the future of our wonderful District.
“I’d like to thank my predecessor, Councillor Reed for all his hard work over the past two years. We have been lucky enough to have some remarkable Chairmen and women to represent this Council over the years and I aim to follow the high standards they have set.”
