Cuckfield paddling pool repairs completed

PR2372/RA/MF - 15/07/2021

Cuckfield paddling pool has reopened in time for the school holidays, providing local parents and young children with a fun way to cool down during the summer.

The popular paddling pool at Cuckfield Recreation Ground is made of concrete and has been open to the public since the 1950s. Due to the age of the facility, significant repairs have been required on an annual basis over recent years to keep it operational.

The Council commissioned a specialist survey of the paddling pool in April, which revealed substantial voids underneath it that threatened the structural integrity of pool. Mid Sussex District Council has invested almost £50,000 to underpin the paddling pool, strengthening the foundations, making it more secure and installing a new fibreglass shell.

Councillor John Belsey, Cabinet Member for Environment and Service Delivery said:

“We know that Cuckfield Paddling pool is highly valued by the local community and these repairs are a significant investment by Mid Sussex District Council in the future of this popular facility.

“There’s nothing better on a hot summer’s day than dipping your feet in the cool water or for the younger children to be able to splash around with their friends.

“The paddling pool is free to use and will now be open until September, when the weather starts to cool and children return to school for the new term.”
