The Sustainable Construction Supplementary Planning Document (SPD) provides guidance and advice for those involved in development in Mid Sussex to help them deliver a high quality built environment. The document details how sustainable construction techniques can be employed in new developments, thereby minimising the detrimental social and environmental impacts of new development and where possible bringing about enhancements.
The SPD was adopted on the 10th July 2006 under the provisions of the Planning and Compulsory Purchase Act 2004. This SPD forms part of the District Council's Local Development Framework and is one of the material considerations that can be taken into account when determining a planning application for development.
The SPD provides further guidance in support of policies in the Mid Sussex Local Plan, namely Policy B4 (Energy and Water Conservation) and Policy CS19 (Renewable Energy). The adoption of the SPD followed an extensive process of consultation in conformity with the District Council's Statement of Community Involvement and the Town and Country Planning (Local Development) (England) Regulations 2004. This consultation included a statutory six week period of public consultation in December 2005 and January 2006.
