What is a District Plan?

The District Plan is the main planning document used by the Council when considering planning applications. It includes the strategy, proposed level of development and a number of planning policies.

District Plan Review and Update

Mid Sussex District Council adopted its District Plan on 28th March 2018. The adopted District Plan can be found below.

In accordance with National Policy, legislation, and a commitment in the adopted District Plan, the District Council have commenced a review of the District Plan. It is a requirement to complete the review and any subsequent update within 5 years of adoption – 2023. More information is on the District Plan Review page.

Regulation 19 Consultation

The Submission District Plan 2021-2039 was published for Regulation 19 consultation between the 12th January and the 23rd February 2024.

Regulation 18 Consultation

The draft District Plan 2021-2039 was published for the Regulation 18 consultation between the  7th November and the 19th December 2022. Further information can be found on the District Plan Review page or the District Plan 2021-2039 consultation page.

Adopted Mid Sussex District Plan 2014-2031

Mid Sussex District Council adopted the Mid Sussex District Plan 2014-2031 as a Development Plan Document at its meeting on 28th March 2018. It replaces the Mid Sussex Local Plan 2004 (other than saved Local Plan policies).

District Plan Inspector's Report

The District Council received the Inspector's Report on the District Plan in March 2018.

The Inspector concludes that with the recommended Main Modifications set out in the Appendix, the Mid Sussex District Plan satisfies the requirements of Section 20(5) of the 2004 Act and meets the criteria of the 2004 Act and meets the criteria for soundness in the National Planning Policy Framework.

Evidence Base

A number of studies were used during the preparation of the District Plan to provide evidence and justification for the strategy and policies within the plan.
