To ensure that the Sustainability Appraisal process has been undertaken in conformity with the relevant leglislation and guidance, the Council sent the full draft of the Sustainability Appraisal Report to Riki Therival (of Levett-Therival Sustainability Consultants) for an independent audit. In general, the audit found the Sustainability Appraisal Report to be in compliance with the relevant leglislation and guidance. Some minor changes were suggested and were incorporated into the Sustainability Appraisal Report that was considered by Council on the 12th December 2007.

Public Consultation 2008 - Consultation Responses
The District Council published the Core Strategy Pre-Submission document for public consultation between 7th February - 20th March 2008. This resulted in over 5,000 responses.
All of the comments received are now available to view using the link below. You are able to search for responses by Surname, Organisation, Respondent Reference number and Form type. Some submissions were too detailed to be viewed in this format (they contained maps or diagrams, or were extremely lengthy), so are available to download in full from the link below:

Since the District Council undertook the consultation on the Core Strategy Pre-Submission document, a few submissions have been made, in most cases as a follow up to certain representations. These submissions are generally supplying additional information to support the allocation of certain sites in the Core Strategy. These submissions can be downloaded using the link below:
Following the close of the consultation period, the District Council responded to the issues raised by respondents. In order to respond to the large number of representations made on the Core Strategy Pre-Submission document a series of topic papers were produced that identify the comments made on particular policies and issues and how these comments have been responded to. REPORTS TO THE BETTER ENVIRONMENT ADVISORY GROUP (BEAG)
Two reports were taken to one of the Council's internal committees - the Better Environment Advisory Group - regarding the Core Strategy Preferred Options Document in 2007. The first, on the 27th June 2007, set out the broad locations being considered for development and the preliminary findings of the Sustainability Appraisal. On 18th September 2007, a second report presented a draft of the Core Strategy Preferred Options Document for discussion prior to its consideration by Council in October 2007. Habitats Regulations Assessment
The Habitats Regulations Assessment considers the 49 Core Policies in the Core Strategy Pre-submission Document and the changes that they may cause that may be relevant to two European sites deemed to be at risk (Ashdown Forest SAC and Ashdown Forest SPA).
