Contact the number on the machine, quoting the machine number and location.
Motorcycles
Motorcycles may be parked free of charge in areas marked out for motorcycle parking in some of the District Council's pay & display car parks. Motorcyclists who park in normal parking bays must buy and display a normal pay & display ticket
Why don't you ticket a driver abusing a Mother and Toddler bay?
Unlike the Disabled Bays, the markings on the Mother and Toddler bays are "advisory" only and therefore cannot be enforced.
Can I park in a Pay and Display Car Park overnight?
You are able to park in a pay and display car park overnight as the charges do not apply after 6pm. Please ensure that you have either moved your vehicle or purchased a ticket by 8am the following day otherwise you will be subject to a Penalty Charge Notice.
Height Barriers
From time to time car parks are taken over by unauthorised users in larger vehicles, who stay for a longer period of time. This means that the amount of space available for car parking is severely reduced. For this reason, some car parks have been fitted with height barriers at the entrances and exits.
The barriers can be opened if needed for access or maintenance works.
Muster Green
Muster Green is a Season Ticket Holders Car Park Monday to Friday 8am to 6pm. There is signage on the entry ramp and within the car park advising customers of this, and the machine will only be in service on Saturdays.
What about parking on Christmas and New Years Day?
Our car parks are free on 25th/26th December, 1st January and all UK Bank Holidays.
I've been issued a ticket that hasn't come from MSDC
There are several car parks in the District that are privately run and use independent enforcement agencies. If you have been issued a ticket that does not display the MSDC logo, you will need to contact the enforcement agency directly, as MSDC have no jurisdiction in these car parks. Always check for signage where you have parked and ensure that you are not on privately owned land.
I have a restriction outside my property. Am I exempt?
The public highway remains property of WSCC and there are no automatic rights for a resident to park outside their property. If there are restrictions outside the property, a resident will have to abide by them. As the number of vehicles owned by each property has increased over the years, a restriction is not necessarily a viable solution to a parking problem. WSCC is currently carrying out works into the possible installation of Controlled Parking Zones in both Burgess Hill and Haywards Heath that will enable residents to park in a Residents bay nearer to their properties and without fear of a penalty.
Will vehicles be towed away?
West Sussex County Council and Mid Sussex District Council does not believe there is a recognised need in the early stages of LAPE to invoke the statutory powers it has to routinely remove vehicles contravening the parking restrictions.
Such powers exist and, in extreme cases, (say where a vehicle is considered a serious traffic hazard and the owner cannot be traced) the attendants would notify the police to have the offending vehicle removed.
Will the attendants be incentivised to maximise income from fines?
No. Parking attendants will receive a salary, and there will be no quotas or targets for issuing tickets. They will be trained to be fair but firm. Their job is simply to get drivers to obey parking control measures and issue a PCN where a contravention has taken place.
