You will need to decide what type of application you want to make. In most cases, if you know exactly what you want to do and have prepared detailed drawings, or if you want to change the use of property or land, you will need to make a 'full' application. If you want to see what the Council thinks about your proposal before you go to the trouble of making detailed drawings (e.g. erecting a new house) you might be able to make an 'outline' application, but check with us. Remember, if you make an outline application you will still need to provide full details later.

Please submit your application electronically via our partners at the Planning Portal. Alternatively you can apply using paper form which can be downloaded, or planning application forms can be picked up at the Council Offices in person.

You may find it helpful to talk to a planning officer before you apply for permission, please see How can I contact the Development Control section'. Apart from helping you, this discussion should also make it easier for us to deal with your application once you make it. The Council will be able to give you some idea as to whether your application is likely to get planning permission; but this advice is not a firm promise. Sometimes the planning officer might suggest how you can change your proposals so that they are more likely to be approved. Please note that there is a charge for some types of pre application advice, please see 'Charges for Pre-Application Advice'
