Introduction

The Building Regulations are legal requirements that apply to building work and are aimed at achieving minimum standards of construction to ensure the health and safety of people in or around buildings. They are also concerned with energy conservation and with access and facilities for disabled people. Building Control is here to assist in the building process to meet the minimum standards set out in the Building Regulations and to safeguard the community from bad building practice. In this way it helps to create a sustainable local environment for the benefit of the residents of Mid Sussex.

The Staff

The Building Control Service is staffed with experienced and appropriately qualified personnel. All staff undergo suitable training every year to allow them to continue with their professional development and to ensure that they have the necessary skills and up-to-date knowledge to provide a high quality service to our clients and the general public. The Building Control Surveyors work within specified area teams but are encouraged to share their experieces with colleages to ensure a consistent approach throughout the District. They become very familiar with their particular area and build up invaluable knowledge relating to matters such as site history and ground conditions.
