Accessibility Issues in New Developments

Mid Sussex District Council is committed to making sure that the services it provides are accessible to all and that disabled people in particular are treated no less favourably than others in the provision of services, employment or housing.  This section of our website provides guidance regarding our planning policies and Building Regulations, which developers will need to take into account in ensuring that design issues meet the needs of the whole community, including disabled people.

Advice for Developers on accessibility requirements in Planning and Building Control Regulations

A good source of policy advice in taking into account accessibility issues in new developments is provided in the National Planning Policy Guidance.

Further information on accessibility requirements is available from the Development Control Team email  tel 01444 477019.

Building Control Regulations

Buildings must also comply with the Building Control Regulations in respect of access, internal circulation and the facilities provided.  The part M regulations can be accessed via the following link
