Children in East Grinstead are bouncing, zipping and climbing at Sunnyside Recreation ground after Mid Sussex District Council installed some brand new playground equipment for them to enjoy.
The new £44,000 playground equipment was officially unveiled by Councillor Gary Marsh, Mid Sussex District Council Cabinet Member for Service Delivery on Thursday 29 September.
The Council consulted closely with local children and parents to find out exactly what sort of play equipment they would like to see installed at Sunnyside. Parents wanted more challenging items of equipment, so there is a new climbing wall built into the existing mound that leads to a slide at the top. Local children wanted the Council to put in a zip wire, trampoline and bigger football goalposts and all three have been installed as part of the playground improvements.
New seating has been provided for parents and carers inside the play area and there is new sculptural seating for young people located outside the fenced play area.
All the new playground equipment has been installed alongside the swings, toddler climbing frame, slide, see-saw and roundabout that were already in place. The existing equipment has been repainted to give it a fresh new look and a new red rubber surface has been laid to soften the landings for younger children.
“It’s fantastic to see so many young people playing outside with their friends and really making the most of this wonderful new equipment,” said Councillor Gary Marsh, MSDC Cabinet Member for Service Delivery.
“We had a terrific response from the local community to our consultation on these playground improvements and I’m delighted that so many local parents and children have got involved to help shape their local area.
“Anyone who hasn’t already been to Sunnyside Rec to see the new equipment should head on down because it really is tremendous fun for children.”
