The project was approved by Cabinet in October 2011, an architect was appointed to draw up detailed plans and planning approval was gained in January 2013. The project was slightly delayed due to changes to the design but work has now started on site and the facilities are expected to be open to the public by late Summer 2014.
The new sports and recreation area will feature three football pitches, a brand new skate park and a hard surfaced area that will be marked out for a range of sports including tennis, netball, five-a-side football and basketball. The pavilion building will provide a community hall, meeting rooms and changing facilities for up to four separate sports teams. There will also be 40 parking spaces provided outside.
The Bolnore Village Residents Association has taken an active role in the project to provide local people with some sports and recreation facilities. They recently carried out a naming competition for the new community centre and received over 50 suggestions from the public before selecting ‘The Woodside Pavilion’ as the winning entry.
