COLLECTION DISRUPTION DUE TO WEATHER

When there is disruption to bin collections we will endeavour to keep you up to date on thi spage, so please check back.

Please note that prior to all roads being completely clear from ice, even though residents may be able to negotiate conditions in a family car or small van, a 26 tonne refuse collection freighter is a different proposition entirely. The decision on whether it is safe for a freighter to access a specific location/street must remain with the driver. He is responsible for the safety of his crew that work around the freighter and the public nearby. Drivers must use their experience to assess the prevailing driving and weather conditions at that time and the physical nature of the area that has to be negotiated.

Compacted ice on pavements can also be extremely difficult for collection staff trying to move heavy bins. Some pavements are made almost inaccessible for emptying bins where roads have been ploughed / or pavements have been cleared resulting in large piles of snow at road/pavements edge.

If several days have been missed then even once most / all roads are clear and accessible again, there will still be a backlog of collections. Your road may be perfectly clear but it may still take a few days for the crews to get to you.

FROZEN GARDEN BINS

During cold spells you may find that the material in your garden bin freezes. When this happens it expands and it may become stuck fast in the bins, preventing emptying. Where possible crews will check back later in the day, however this may not always be practical. If not then we will empty the bin on the next scheduled collection day. Trying to empty frozen bins can result in loss of the whole bin into the freighter. Thank you for your patience in this matter.
