The Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL) was introduced by the Government in 2010. The CIL is a new system of planning charges for the funding of a wide range of infrastructure.

The CIL will largely replace the existing system of Section 106 obligations.

It is up to each District Council to produce a 'Community Infrastructure Levy Charging Schedule'. The Charging Schedule lays out the charges that will have to be paid to fund new infrastructure.

The next step is for the District Council to publish a draft Charging Schedule followed by the adoption of a final Charging Schedule after independent examination.

June 2013

Mid Sussex District Council has produced a draft Charging Schedule together with a supporting Community Involvement Plan and Equalities Impact Assessement which is to be considered by the Scrutiny Committee for Planning and Economic Development on the 4th June 2013. The Draft Infrastructure Plan identifies the type, location and estimated cost of the infrastructure required to support new development in Mid Sussex as set out in the proposed submission District Plan.

The Viability Assessment for Community Infrastructure Levy and Affordable Housing looks at the viability of housing and commercial development in Mid Sussex. In connection with the publication of the draft Charging Schedule, a 2013 update to the Viability Assessment has been produced.

May 2012

April 2012 - Consultation Feedback

Members of the Better Environment Advisory Group considered the issues raised during the consultation on the preliminary draft Charging Schedule (February-March 2012) at their meeting on the 25th April 2012. The report can be viewed using the link below:

February-March 2012 - Preliminary Draft Charging Schedule Consultation

A preliminary draft Charging Schedule was published for public consultation between the 9th February and the 21st March 2012 as the first step in setting a Community Infrastructure Levy in Mid Sussex. The District Council has taken into account all comments made during this consultation which will inform the publication of the Draft Charging Schedule.
