If you experience difficulties with the collection service, please ensure that you leave your rubbish/recycling out:
- On your normal collection day
- At the edge of your property, in a clearly visible location
- In the appropriate container - grey lidded wheelie bin (landfill waste) or blue lidded wheelie bin (recycling)
- Accessible from 7am
If you have followed these guidelines and your bin has still not been collected, please let us know by filling in our secure, online Missed Bin Collection form.
- Once a missed bin is reported and we have checked that it is justified, we will clear the bin in 3 working days. Please ensure your bin is available for collection during this time.
Please use the Missed Bin Form to report a missed Refuse/Recycling collection or to let us know about a Dog/Litter bin that has not been emptied.
Unsure of your collection day? Take a look at our Collection Day page.
In Mid Sussex we now consistently reach 45% of waste we collect being recycled. However the amounts of materials in Blue Lidded Recycling bins that we can't recycle, have been slowly creeping up. We know that the residents of Mid Sussex are good recyclers and wouldn't want any of loads to be rejected by the sorting facility.
Material for recycling should be clean, dry and loose (not contained in bags).
The items that we most commonly find in bins that we are NOT CURRENTLY ABLE TO RECYCLE are:
- Plastic Bags
- Crockery and other glass (such as Pyrex and mirror glass)
- Food waste
- Yoghurt/ Margarine/ Ice Cream Cartons / Plastic Food Trays
Please put these items in your Grey Lidded Landfill Bin.
BANK HOLIDAYS
Please note scheduled collections remain unchanged on Bank Holidays except over the Christmas and New Year period. Collection calendars include information about changes to collections during this period.
IN CASE OF SNOW
Following severe snow please consider the follwoing information:
Prior to all roads being completely clear from ice, even though residents may be able to negotiate conditions in a family car or small van, a 26 tonne refuse collection freighter is a different proposition entirely. The decision on whether it is safe for a freighter to access a specific location/street must remain with the driver. He is responsible for the safety of his crew that work around the freighter and the public nearby. Drivers must use their experience to assess the prevailing driving and weather conditions at that time and the physical nature of the area that has to be negotiated.
Compacted ice on pavements can also be extremely difficult for collection staff trying to move heavy bins. Some pavements are made almost inaccessible for emptying bins where roads have been ploughed / or pavements have been cleared resulting in large piles of snow at road/pavements edge.
If several days have been missed then even once most / all roads are clear and accessible again, there will still be a backlog of collections. Your road may be perfectly clear but it may still take a few days for the crews to get to you.
