Town Centre Revitalisation - Latest News

Following the local elections in May 2011, the Better Mid Sussex Advisory Group met on 2nd June 2011 to review the Better Mid Sussex projects and agree its overall workplan for the year.  The Group also reviewed the proposed procurement process for a scheme in Victoria Park, Haywards Heath.  The minutes of this meeting can be viewed at BMSAG minutes: 2.6.11 (pdf, 237.4 bk) and the reports can be viewed at BMSAG reports: 2.6.11 (pdf, 1083.8 kb). 

At the meeting of the Advisory Group on 30th June, Members received an update from officers concerning the proposed project in Victoria Park, Haywards Heath.  Members also reviewed issues facing Haywards Heath Town Centre and decided to invite the managing agents of the Orchards Shopping Centre to a meeting of the Group.  In addition, Members agreed to the production of a promotional pack to highlight to the private sector the benefits of investing in Haywards Heath.  The minutes of this meeting can be viewed at: BMSAG minutes: 30.6.11 (pdf, 317.5 kb) and the BMSAG reports can be viewed at BMSAG reports: 30.6.11 (pdf, 367.5 kb)

The Better Mid Sussex Advisory Group met on 28th July 2011.  At the meeting, the Group received two presentations, one from Solum Regeneration who are exploring development opportunities at Haywards Heath Railway Station.  The other presentation was from New River Retail who are exploring opportunities to develop a scheme in Burgess Hill Town Centre.  The minutes of the meeting can be viewed at: BMSAG minutes: 28.7.11 (pdf, 310.07 kb) and the BMSAG reports can be viewed at BMSAG reports: 28.7.11 (pdf, 301 kb)

The Better Mid Sussex Advisory Group met on 22nd September 2011 and received an update on the projects seeking to enhance the appearance of Haywards Heath and Burgess Hill Town Centre.  The Group received details on the progress of the project to provide new town centre toilets in East Grinstead.  The Group gave consideration to the options to progress the project in Victoria Park given the lack of a private sector response to the request for expressions of interest.  The minutes of the meeting can be viewed at BMSAG minutes: 22.9.11 (pdf, 93.5 kb) and the reports can be viewed at BMSAG reports: 22.9.11 (pdf, 340 kb).

At the meeting of the Better Mid Sussex Advisory Group held on 20th October 2011, members received a presentation from the developer, Frontier Estates, who set out their ideas for a partial redevelopment of the Queens Walk shopping centre in East Grinstead town centre.  The developers are working with one of the major land owners in Queens Walk and are considering a scheme which would include the existing public car park.

The members also reviewed the progress of producing some promotional material for Haywards Heath town centre.

At the meeting of the Better Mid Sussex Advisory Group held on 17th November 2011 members received a presentation from F&C REIT Asset Management who spoke about the issues and opportunities at the Orchards shopping centre in Haywards Heath.  Members agreed at the meeting that the existing Haywards Heath Town Centre Landowner Brief should be withdrawn.

Members also received an update on the Sadlers Yard, East Grinstead and the promotional material for Haywards Heath Town Centre.

The meeting of the Better Mid Sussex Advisory Group on 15th December 2011 gave further consideration to the project in Victoria Park, Haywards Heath and agreed to return to this matter in the Summer of 2012.

The Group also agreed to the cancellation of the meeting due to be held on 9th February 2012.

At the meeting of the Better Mid Sussex Advisory Group held on 12th January 2012, members received an update from New River Retail on their proposals for Burgess Hill Town Centre.

Members also reviewed the Better Mid Sussex annual report and gave an indication that they would wish the project to review opportunities at Burgess Hill Railway Station in 2012 as part of its work programme.
