Mid Sussex is ranked 21st in Britain by The Halifax Quality of Life Survey, which is released each year. The survey includes a study of all 408 Local Authority Districts in Britain and looks at local performance across key indicators including, the labour market, the housing market, the environment, education and health. Authorities in the South East dominate the top of the quality of life league table, with 23 of the top 30 based in the area.
Councillor Gary Marsh, Deputy Leader of Mid Sussex District Council, has welcomed the Halifax Quality of Life Survey results.
"The Halifax survey confirms what we experience daily - that Mid Sussex is an excellent place to live. We are blessed in this beautiful District with low crime rates, high employment and excellent public green spaces - all contributing to a top lifestyle rating.
"It is great to be recognised for the hard work and excellent results we achieve along with our partners, but we are not complacent. Like all local authorities, we face significant funding cuts as part of the recent Comprehensive Spending Review. We have been planning for this and it is important to remember that Mid Sussex District Council has an excellent recent track record in achieving efficiencies and finding new ways to deliver services for less.
"This is a time of challenge and of change, likely to require a period of adjustment for both the Council and residents. However, with strong leadership, the support of the local people and by working with our partner organisations, I am confident we can continue to ensure Mid Sussex is an excellent place to live, work and visit."
